What are Fishcards?
"Fishcards" is our term for submersible Field Guides. Ours are made by Seahawk Press, and are printed on the same tough plastic as credit cards. They identify fish, coral, jellyfish, and other ocean organisms.
Can they really be taken underwater?
Absolutely -- that's what they were designed for! They are perfect for people who love the ocean and its diversity. Anyone who loves to fish, snorkel, scuba dive, sail, travel, or go boating will love Fishcards. They are tough, colorful, scientifically accurate, and quite beautiful. Even landlubbers will enjoy having Fishcards in their reference library. And yes, they are an excellent bathtub accessory for children ages 2-120.
How are Fishcards used?
Fishcards have a hole at the top so you can attach a lanyard or cord and wear it around your wrist while diving or snorkeling. Naturally, for safety reasons, you would not wear Fishcards around your neck! Fishcards can also be attached to a wetsuit. If you have fins on, you don't use your arms much, so you can also just hold the Fishcard in your hand. It's exciting to be able to see a fish or coral and identify it right away! Fishcards are also great for keeping on fishing boats for easy reference. Universities purchase Fishcards for use in their Marine Biology courses, but Fishcards are suitable for students and scholars of any age.
What is the difference between the Mini- and full-sized Fishcards?
Mini-Fishcards have the same number of species on the front and back as the corresponding full-sized cards. They measure 6-1/4" high by 4-3/4" wide, and will fit into the BC pocket of diving wetsuits. Unless you specifically want to put the Mini-Fishcard in a BC pocket, we recommend the full-sized Fishcard, because it might be more difficult for you to read the names printed under the species on the smaller card while diving underwater. Otherwise, they function and deliver the same high level of quality and performance as the original, 6" x 9" Fishcards.
Is there a minimum order requirement from this site?
The minimum merchandise total is just $6. However, Priority Mail allows us to fit nearly a pound of Fishcards and books for the same shipping rate as one card or book, so stock up! Fishcards and Seahawk Press books make great gifts, and some are even sized to be perfect as stocking stuffers for the holidays.
Haven't I seen these Fishcards somewhere before?
If you have traveled to the Florida Keys, or diving destinations such as Hawaii, Cancun, Maldives, etc., you may well have seen Seahawk Press' Field Guides, which have been sold at better dive stores for many years. Specific cards have also been created for the cruise industry, as well as specific tourist destinations and resorts. Seahawk Press originated the submersible field guide. You also may have seen "copycat" cards. We feel these are quite inferior due to their lack of detail (colors and illustrations appear "murky"), and their layouts are not as artfully designed. Because Seahawk Press has been researching and publishing books on underwater life for decades, and features the talents of artist Idaz Greenberg, no other submersible fish ID card comes close to theirs in quality. You will always find Idaz Greenberg's name in the copyright line at the bottom of an authentic Field Guide. Accept no substitutes!
What other products can I buy from your web site?
Seahawk Press has an impressive array of beautiful, full-color books featuring the underwater photography of Jerry and Michael Greenberg. The books are researched and written by Idaz Greenberg, and often feature her illustrations. She has also created the Coral Reef Coloring Book for children. You can now order their full line of books from this web site, as well as tee shirts (an exclusive, while they last). We also carry a great line or waterproof sport cases, perfect for divers, beach lovers, tourists, and people who want to carry the basics around with them in a tough but fashionable case.
I am trying to order, but can't get the shopping cart to work right. What should I do?

Can I use Fishcards or Seahawk Press books as part of my science project?
Yes and no. You may of course use the card or book itself in your display. However, the artwork on Fishcards and in Seahawk books and posters is copyrighted. The card itself, any illustration on that card, any any images in the books may not be photocopied, scanned, traced, or duplicated in any way, shape, or form. That also applies to the pictures of fishcards and the books on this web site. Our site, which sells these products, has not used any of the illustrations as decoration. It is simply not allowed.
Who are Idaz and Jerry Greenberg, and what is Seahawk Press?
Jerry Greenberg has been one of the foremost underwater
photographers since the 1950s. Unable to find underwater camera housings back
then, Jerry crafted his own. Famous for his "kiss of flash", his
compositional skills, and his knack for being in the right place at the right
time (never mind the hours it took for it to become the right time!), Jerry's
skill and artistry has been featured in Skin Diver Magazine, Life, Argosy,
National Geographic, Audubon Magazine, and many others. To date, his company,
Seahawk Press has published over a dozen books, and innovated the waterproof
fish identification guides seen on the Fishcards page
of this site.
Jerry's wife, Idaz, uses her artistic talent to illustrate the Fishcards and
Guide books, and has
proven to be a gifted researcher and writer. Together, Idaz and Jerry choose
from among thousands of photographs, design the layouts of each page, polish the
text, and are closely involved in all aspects of the printing process. Some of
their books include underwater photographs taken by their son, Michael
Greenberg. The Greenbergs have been married since 1955 and reside in South
Miami, Florida. Because of their artistry and high standards, Seahawk
Press books and waterproof cards are truly a
finely crafted labor of love.
